Arriving in Newquay, you are suddenly struck with how hilly the area is. Don’t know why I thought it wasn’t. As per usual we get lost getting to the accommodation, after visiting the Aldi in town. A cute converted barn adjoining the owners house. Greeted with a warm welcome, fresh scones with jam and cream. Jam first they said. Thats the Cornish way. We unpacked and decided to take the dogs out for a quick walk to Gannel Estuary 200meters in front of the property.

Saturday we decided we would get out and explore more. Heading along the coastal headland. With Zoey in the dog pram, we ventured out along the tiny coastal walking paths. This is good if not pushing a large dog pram thats 20kg and an 18kg dog. Paddle boarders in the estuary its calm green waters, the water differing the closer we got to the ocean.

A bigger and different walk on the 4th May. We carried on from where we had left the day before. Passing above Fistral beach and through Newquay town centre. We visited Towan headland and the Huer hut. The coast a hive of activity. Kayakers, coastal jumping, surfing and paddle boarders. This place is probably the most dog friendly place we have been, so many dogs. Passing Newquay harbour we stop at Sushea for a healthy wedding anniversary lunch.

Monday we had a quick paddle in the estuary for the dogs, as we headed inland along the estuary it has a footbridge to the other side. We crossed over and carried on for a while but the terrain with the pram was getting harder. We headed back to the bridge and across the main road to Trenance boating lake. Deciding to go to Aldi on the way home. I had forgotten about the massive vertical climb up to it. Im glad im fit and strong. Those sled pushes in the gym are paying off.

Tuesday we headed to Porth beach, great walking paths there. Beautiful clear water perfect for the dogs to swim in. Jas had googled the best fish n chip shop, so we waited for them to open. And yes they were the best fish n chips we have had in the last 11 years.
Wednesday was Crantock beach day. Why i dragged the empty dog pram there and back i do not know. The sand too soft to push Zoey in she ended up pottering there and back. At one point i had to run, yes run after her as she took off. You wouldn’t think she couldnt walk 2 weeks before. George managed to clothes-line himself on the low tide foot bridge. Which was funny as he ended up swimming to shore.

Thursday was the day Moules and Co opened for the week. A tiny restaurant with only 6 things on the menu. 5 star ratings it did not disappoint in fact i give it 5 stars too. The mussels were amazing as we ate them takeaway overlooking the harbour. A final swim in the estuary for the dogs as we leave early on friday

Newquay has everything and reminds me of NZ so much. Loved the beaches, the weather and they love dogs x
