Monday we headed into Belgium for the next couple of days. First we headed to the sleepy little village of Hans-Sur- Lesse. Parked up at a peaceful aire on the edge of town. It was a great for one night. The town home to a safari style tram through the surrounding forestry. There are caves, wildlife and hiking trails around and if we had more time. I’m sure it would have been good to see more. Tuesday we headed to Kortrijk. The roads were…… bad. Italy is the worst but nearly all the roads from the south north are tyre shredders. Pot holes everywhere and then the centre line has rough gouges, that are sure to blow a few tyres. Arriving in Kortrijk, what a great place. Right on the canal and a short walk into town, it’s a mixture of many other Belgium towns mixed with a little Netherlands. We walked into town and around the sites, buying some Belgium waffles for later. Jason wanted to go to Brugge Wednesday so we drove to a well set out site also on the edge of town. There must have been 8 british vans in there, possibly all heading home. Brugge did not disappoint, we loved Gent but Brugge definitely beats that. Little canals with boats cruising up and down. Large parks filled with spring daffodils. Shop after shop of Belgium chocolates, waffles and Flemish tapestries. We arrived in the main square, it was market day. Jason getting his street food fix of mussels and smoked ribs. We were surprised at how busy the old town was. Tour group after tour group. It wasnt till we got back to the parking we saw over 30 coaches parked up. Brugge is definately worth a visit, if you are in Belgium. Lovely walks and large open spaces filled with parks and cycleways. Today we moved onto Oostende, but decided to move out to the countryside closer to the french border. Its peaceful here overlooking fields and parked up with two other Belgium campers. If you havent gathered we are on the home stretch back to the UK. When we return , we will have spent 501 days over the channel in Europe…… oh how time flys… what an adventure……
